Formal Hall is a traditional dinner held in the grand dining halls of the colleges of the University of Cambridge (as well as Oxford and Durham). It is the privilege of college members and their guest to be served a set three course menu at the table in a formal setting, being treated to the best the kitchen has to offer. At Robinson the food is renowned as of a high standard, and is usually traditional English fayre.
As fellows and their guests will also be in attendance you are expected to behave with some dignity and digression, as well as remaining seated unless absolutely necessary. The use of mobile phones and other devices in Hall is generally frowned upon, although Robinson does not seem as concerned as some other colleges about this particular point.
Enthusiastic drinking is acceptable if not encouraged, but drunkenness or unacceptable behaviour can result in you being asked to leave or even being banned. Pennying and other drinking games are not permitted at Robinson formal.
