You left Concord in 1993 – can you give me a short history of what you did after Concord
Yes I left in 1993, went to Wolverhampton Uni for my LLB; where I met my husband. Then I sat for my Bar exams in London - studied at Holborn College, dining at Lincoln's Inn. Finally I passed my Trinity Bar exams in 1997 and was called to the Bar thereafter. As a barrister-at-law, I had to do my pupilage for a year in Malaysia and finally I was called to the Malaysian Bar in 1998
Where do you work today?
I own my own company, Global Turbine Asia which is in the aerospace sector; it is a JV company with SAFRAN group of France. The main activity is maintenance, repair and overhaul for helicopter and aircraft engines. A member of Malaysian Defense Industries and Malaysian Aerospace Association
What is your role in your job and what inspires you to do what you do?
There arent many ladies in the aerospace sector as we know it. I think I can inspire more people to be in this exciting and dynamic industry as it is high tech and niche in nature. As the owner/ CEO, I drive the company into many achievements and we are growing rapidly. From seven people now we are 25 people. My inspiration is to create more high skilled labour which can be exportable worldwide. Also to create more employment opportunity for the country.
If you could change anything about what you have done in the past or about your life now what would it be?
I would not have changed my past as the experience has shaped me into the person that I am now. I think I could have been more successful if I had a mentor to guide me in my career but I do not regret for learning, trying and failing on my own; thus gaining the experience which made me more versatile and business savvy
(Note from Alumni Officer - watch this space as mentoring is an area we hope to grow our Concord Alumni Network so we can all help each other to grow).
If you were giving a talk to our current students - what one bit of advice would you give to them today?
Be bold, don't procrastinate; Live your dream and read on!
If you can give me one memory of your time Concord what would it be?
Myself singing at the Malaysian Society night which Mr Morris really liked. :) And being the Deejay in the West End (Note from Editor - does anyone have any photo's of this we can add to this story?)
Have you lost contact with anyone we can help you re-connect with since leaving Concord College?
I wish I can reconnect with everybody. Let's hold another reunion in KL soon. I am still connected with many of my Concord friends - my Facebook is a living proof
Who was your favourite teacher at Concord (or subject) and why?
Mr Grout!!! He was a cool tutor and he got me interested in economics which has helped me a long way
When you look back at your days at Concord – can you give a sentence or word that sums up what Concord gave to you?
Taught me be independent and cope with the English weather!
