We are hugely grateful to all the Concord alumni experts, entrepreneurs, financiers, marketers and medical doctors who supported this important initiative. All our 6.1 students attended as well as some of our 6.2s who took a break from exam revision.
Our keynote speaker was Concord alumna, Emma Jones (1990), the UK Government Small Business Commissioner and our on stage panel included Muibat Ijaiya (1990), Ruth Shuzi Lyu (2019) Dr Ijeoma Egbarin (2018) Richard Phillips (2009), Illia Nadykto (2024) and Leonid Sokolov (2023).
In the breakout rooms we covered 6 topics, 'The Power of Connections', 'Why Branding Matters', 'Getting Started and Getting Funded', 'Leadership & Management', 'Embracing Change with transferrable skills' and 'Why Run a Business, and when can you start?'.
Alumni Hannah Nijsten (2011), Bulut Kızılot (2023), Bernadine Tay (1999) Faridah Ijaiya (2012), Rosma Salomaa (2019), Pisit (Mike) Chintawongvanich (2023), Michael Losavio (2019), Tunde Gafaar (2009), Ivan Panfilovich (2023), Andrei Sosnin (2024) and Daniil Shchukin (2023) joined the panel to share their considerable experience and advice.
The afternoon ended with a professional networking session where students put into practice networking skills, learned earlier that week from Assistant Principal Student Futures, Diane van Dongen.
Concord Vice Principal, Robert Pugh, has passed on this message to our alumni;
"A sincere thank you from me, for the magic you helped to create on Saturday. At Concord, our key priority has to be the academic, as it was when you were studying here. As much as we would like to, we are not the experts in advising on where those academic qualifications can be applied and to what careers and opportunities they can lead. The insight and experience that you shared with our current students on Saturday went some way to addressing that balance. You have reassured, inspired and motivated a significant number of young people. I hope you felt some of that impact while you were here and also that you enjoyed the chance to catch up with some old friends and/or teachers here in little Acton Burnell."
